Water symbolizes life. But, water has the ability to end life faster than it is created. “Float / Don’t Drown”, by voix in the dark, explores the dangerous energy of water and keeping your head above it. The track “Float” starts with a modest techno kick, building to a grungy synth lead. The bridge is very Pretty Hate Machine era Nine Inch Nails. (I couldn’t help it!) The vocals speak of distance and promise.

“Don’t Drown” is a simple dance song that teeters on the line of old school EBM and 70s funk. The bassline is relentless, switching to and from a slap style bass that is reminiscent of Jackson 5 era Michael and his brothers. Underlying the track is a soft gloom of water sounds, tying in with the vocal sample “don’t drown”. Sometimes the simplest tracks, speak the loudest.
